Dont be sorry. Fiqured it was, just wanted to get confirmation from someone more knowledgeable than me. Thanks a lot . This is the first time I have ever been able to get actual confirmation on stuff I've had for eon's. As the kids have moved out I'm going thru it all sorting good from bad, and now can go forward and get the good stuff . will keep them for fillers, then when I replace them I can flog them as repro's on E-bay or something. Have no fear I will never try to pass them off as real Thanks again

Although this is the first one I have seen in bullion embroidery lik ethis, there are a number of variation sof thi sgoing around. Most are being called "Wachtruppe" cufftitles. I have even seen a version with black letters on white. None are authentic in my opinion, nor have I ever seen through any research that I have been able to do, any indication there was ever a "Wachtruppe" cufftitle.

I am surprised you indicate having had this for 30 years...or is it something you have acquired withing the 30 years you have collected?

I believe this example to be original (Third Pattern Grossdeutschland cuffband in Sütterlin script) - hope it can help

                      Wachtruppe

I read your comments regarding the Wachtruppe Scott. It makes me feel a little better, after having taken some Flak over cufftitles that people were claiming to be Wachtruppe variants. "Variants" my arse, I even see helmut weitze has one of these "Wachtruppe" cufftitles for sale. I too have NEVER seen or heard of them being worn, not conclusive I know, but if they had have been worn , there would surely have been some photo evidence of it particularly with GD being such a High profile Unit. It doesn't make much sense to have seperate cufftitles for troops being posted/rotated through the wachtruppe when they would already be wearing there "normal" GD titles.

Hi Scott. I bought it and abunch of other items back in 1968 when I was younger. Unfortunatly I have only begun collecting in ernest this last year, Life alwys seemed torear it's ugly head till now. The kids have moved on and I am freeeee to collect to my hearts desire now . If you look thru a bunch of the postyou will see what I bought back then most of which turn out to be fake's. No biggie, probablly didn't cost more than $200.00 back then. But I wanted to confirm just in the off chance....I fiqured it was because I have not seen any other GD cuffbands with the same script also the material is not folded over on the inside.
Francois Merci pour les beau photo's

                          Laurence/Rik/Francois:

Francois' cufftitle is a period original, but one must be VERY careful with any bullion embroidered cufftitle. The repro industry seems to copy this style much more than the cotton embroidered style - which I vastly prefer, which are much, much more rare, and which are harder to fake, as the cotton is difficult to age, much less embroider correctly.

Rik - absolutely do not believe any of this Wachtruppe cufftitle nonsense - Helmut's and Kai's web sites included. No doubt there was a "w" cypher worn - supported by surviving examples and photos. But, as you mention, there is just no evidence that this cufftitle ever existed...except in fake form...to date. I find it intriguing that Laurence has had it since 1968...but from that fact, it could be surmised that it was either (1) a veteran's reunion hand out reminsicent of the second pattern cufftitle, but done on the more popular black, or (2) an early repro by someone who was very confused.

Laurence: I'd like to save your pictures form my archives/research...if I can have your ermission.

Hi Scott. From 1 hunt and peck typist to another, By all means you may use the Pic's. I have asked and recived premission from others for the same request and would be a little hipocritical if I said "no". With the amount of frogeries going on we need all the info available to avoid buying cr*p.

PS you should see the amount of editing I do to clean up a post
