I once had a repro Panzer officers breast eagle that looked the exact same as the breast eagle posted at the top of the page. The reverse threads glowed under blacklight and the fat breast with the dots bothered me. If you have a UV light do the same (you may have to dig in with a pin) or peel back the paper a bit.

I unfortunatly dont have any books on the Eagles. And I was concerned at first because there was no gap between the bum and the legs, but I have seen some with no gaps I think it was on Bill Shea's website, and I have a big book that covers the whole 3 Reich and sen what looks the same, but there was no close up so it is kind of hard to tell, I appreciate your input. Hows the weather out east today

Lawrence:
In my opinion, both of these eagles are reproductions. They are both of a common repro pattern that shows up quite frequently. They were made in all color combinations for both army and navy (e.g., gold on blue, gold on green, silver on black, silver on blue, etc.). I used to own one as an example that was silver on brown...
Anyhow, hope this helps.

Drew

Laurence,
Kriegs eagles are tough to test with a blacklight because even most post war yellow thread doesn't glow. As with any item where there are many variations, concensus opinions are tough. I would have to side with Glenn that I've never seen original eagles like the one's you've posted. That doesn't mean they didn't exist, just means I haven't seen one. While it's just a matter of personal preference I like the plain, "no-frills" type.
