    V-2 Rocket Program Waffenfarbe?

I had a layperson ask, when I showed him my Nebel visor, whther or not it would have been worn by the V-2 Rocket Troops.

Question caught me by surprise--I have no idea what 'farbe they wore at Peenemunde, but I would have assumed artillery.

    Any ideas....

I assumed it would have been Nebel, but a lot of different groups had their fingers in that particular pie, so there could have been several different Waffenfarbe hanging around Peenemunde at any given time... Dornburger came up in Artillerie, so I suspect there was a lot of Hochrot there, and not just on Lampassen.

I agree Don. I feel that there were many specialities involved. I would say that the biggest waffenfarbes would be artillery, Signals, and and lots of Higher Career Level Officals(Admin Beamte from the technical and muntition branches).

Nebeltruppe actually had little to do with the larger weapons systems, most of them were Artillery, V1 was LW and V2 had heavy SS involvement. Dornburger was Nebel officer but was mostly involved early to develop the rocket systems for the prototypes of the launchers and the 15 CM Nebelwerfer 41 which was developed in prototype by late 1939-early 1940 and started production in 1940. Later he transferred into "special projects" and was promoted to Generalmajor.

It was under the Waffenamt and was primary an Army facility but other branches were involved with special weapons development and the Luftwaffe developed a adjacent but separate research center.

As a side note, Dornburger interestingly was captured by US Marines in WWI, and sometimes you will see Nebelwerfers referred to "Do-werfer" in reference to him as the primary developer of the weapon system.

Im not sure what waffenfabre would of been worn either but I do know from my research on peenemunde, they all would of been required to wear an "access" badge. What I have gathered so far is that they were issued in 5 colors and were issued 4 or 5 numbers. Colors I know of were red, yellow and blue /white. Blue and white was for office personnel. Red was for outside companies. Yellow was for secret laboratories and access to launch site 7 where the missile itself was actually tested. This badge was brought back by an uncle of mine. I was curios if anyone else had info on it .

On a side note: the first access badges had "peenenmunde" on the badge itself. The 2nd versions did not. The text translates as "home artillery park 11"
                  The EW stands for ElektricWerkes.

                    Waffenfarbe

There was a German vet who lived nearby and was at Peenemuende for some unknown amount of time. He studied at the U of Heidelberg and was concerned with rocket fuel. Never wanting to reveal much information he did tell me he was a Panzerpionier Lt. and was captured on the Eastern Front. About 1975 I showed him a black wrapper which he found very interesting but it didn't elicit any more info out of him unfortunately. Another older fellow who knew him said he was Waffen-SS which he denied. After the war he came to the US due to von Braun's influence. Whether he was in uniform at Peenemuende is unknown to me, be he did wear black as a soldier. DornbErger is the name of the general who developed the Nebelwerfer but he was called to Heereswaffenamt by the head Gen. der Art. Prof. Dr. Becker. Red would seem to be the logical color.

Nebelwerfer wore Red until April 1936, prior to that Dornberger as a Hauptmann was commander of II Battery of Nebel Abteilung 1/Artillerie-Abteilung Königsbrück, which was a cover unit for the secret development of rocket artillery. He was assigned to H.W.A. in Feb. 1936 and officers permanently assigned to the Artillery Research Center command would have worn Artillery red. Although he had been a Nebel Officer in this case he would have continued to wear red.

First time I ever saw that badge--sounds logical.

Too bad this one is not in color:

I could have sworn I once saw some clear color pics taken of either Peenemunde, or V-2 launch sites.

All I found was this blurry pic of the Reichsheini making a visit there:

Here is a video which I have watched countless times and can only believe that they are wearing these badges on their coats. The guy in the center with the leather greatcoat really stands out. You can see several people wearing them from 0:36 - 0:58

I cant seem to find a picture of the 1st style access badge at the moment. I will keep looking. Sad to say like everything else though, I have seen them start producing copies of the 2nd style badge like the one I posted.
