Need opinions on Heer Officer Uniform Grouping...

    Hi all,

I have an opportunity to purchase a nice vet bring back set. Its a Heer officer tunic, breeches and visor set, that also includes a few armbands and a brocade belt. The story is that the owners father found them in a house in Germany (likely hanging in a closet). The set is pristine!

I know the photos are sub-par at best, but any opinions are helpful.

    Thanks!

Shouldn't the shoulder boards be infantry piped also? Ron

I was thinking the same thing Ron. I rarely subscribe to the stories from the owner since stories tend to fracture and distort over the years.

There is always a chance the cap and breeches are from one soldier, while the tunic came from another (and the brocade belt and other accessories somewhere else entirely). Unless Transport & Supply piping goes ok with Infantry piping? I'm not aware of such an exception though, but I'm no expert on matching uniform pieces either.

These type of tabs were normally used for Waffenrocks or piped dress tunics! Not for field tunics.
Are they blue or green? I can't see that from the photo!
I don't believe the sellers story. A put together set IMO.

Hi Dave. Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately her camera isn't the best, but I'd say that since the coloring in general is true, the piping on the boards are definitely a light blue.

I'm not as concerned about whether or not the set is from the same guy, more that the pieces are original. The light blue boards are fine if they're original to that tunic.

Oh ok!! Sorry the piping looked silver in the picture. So the tabs are correct. I like the tunic. Original transport officers field tunic IMO
From what I see the pants, hat and belt look right too for me!

              Agree! Nice transportation-officer tunic.
              And nice infantrie-visor and pants.

                Madandi,

Thanks for the feedback! I always hate asking this question, but I will anyway

What would you pay for this set if you were considering it for purchase? A single visor or tunic is fairly straightforward, but all of this together is a bit more difficult to judge and I want to be fair.

With no concrete indication that this set is a grouping that originally belonged to one person, I would look at the value as the sum of the parts.

I will agree with you completely Chris. The Cap and Breeches are easy to estimate, but I cannot find a comparable price for the Transport Tunic. Perhaps this is a rare one? Any ideas on a fair value of the tunic?

Transport isn't as sought-after as the combat arms, so I would not pay a premium other than for the fact that it is in very good condition overall. Any idea who the maker of the visor is?
