    Can you identify this?

Hello, this piece looks it might be a paperweight maybe? I got it from a vet's daughter, and I am hoping it is something authentic! Its quite heavy for its size (2 1/8" x 1 5/8" approx). Thanks for checking it out....Marc

Looks like a hobby piece or crafts cast from lead into a mold.

I have seen stuff like this coming from the ground (ground dug) some people think that at the end of the war the soldiers made some 'home made' medailles to look better when they got captured by the allied troops.

I don't know much about the story but I have seen several medailles (from DRL to ISA) coming from the ground they look awfull but have the shape of an original.

American POW's in German camps made medals and insignia from various countries and mounted them on decorative plaques, including German. They were not cast from original badges, but carved molds. They were lead cast, but much nicer than this. I would eliminate POW made.
