                    It is an original tunic in lightweight wool, towards the insignia being originally applied to it, it is pretty hard to tell. The eagle and boards are not sewn very well but could be period and the patina on the boards matches the collar tabs.

                            I like the been there field use look. The collar tabs look like the early tarnished silver type and not the later gray aluminum thread. The collar tabs look fine from the photos taken but under collar shots would help. Like JohnnyR said a look at the inside would be good, maybe at the shoulder seams. I really like the been there look,nice tunic.

                              The 116th Infantry Regiment was part of the 9th Infantry Division which was formed in Giessen. The division was destroyed in the Ukraine in 1944.On the 13 October 1944 in Esberg, Denmark the division was reformed as the 9th Volks Grenadier Division. The division passed into American captivity at Eifel.
