First post and pionier question.

First off I'd like to thank everyone who is involved in making this fine forum. I've been a frequent visitor for a long time and now decided to register. I was tought there is no such thing as stupid questions so here goes ; Where the waffenfarbe of early Heer pioniere white or black ? Does anyone have any reference material regarding the waffenfarbe of the 49 pioneer division within the 10th (Heer) Panzer division ? Any help is greatly appreciated. I believe early pioneer farbe was white AND black twist. as seen on the "panzer-pioneer" tabs and boards.

Black is the waffenfarbe for Pionier.
Black and white twist was used on the black wrappers of Pionier assigned as tank crews in Panzer-Pionier-Bataillons, because black piping could not be seen on the wrappers, but quickly spread to other soldiers in the Pionier Bataillon, because it was quite stylish.
The black and white twist was used up to the end of the war.

On early uniforms ( Pre 1940) the shoulderstraps would have the Unit numbers embroidered in black but outlined in white thread chain stitching .
