    LW buttons on WH greatcoats

    Hi all,

I have seen some heer M42 greatcoats, but with blue pebbled Luftwaffe buttons on them lately. Does anyone know the story behind them?

    Greetings,

    Tim

    Greetings Tim,

If they were manufactured late war the Heer also used a blue grey shade of button.

Similar to the late war box buckles of the WH/KM color scheme,

Blue-gray pebbled buttons (like Luftwaffe) on 1944 / 1945 dated Wehrmacht uniforms is acceptable. These are so-called "Grau-Blau" einheitz knopfen, basically generic buttons, intended for use by ALL branches towards the end of the war.
Such buttons are also found on late war camo uniforms. All genuine "LieberMuster" camo uniforms would have come with these buttons as well as many late war M44 uniforms.
If these appear on an earlier dated tunic or overcoat they're replacements (war time repair or post war restoration)
