I do like the colors and the cut lines that are still visible...

      I don't like it.

Period printed cloth insignia is from loose weave material. And the printing isn't so consistent. Normally you can see that parts of the color drenched to the backside.

Agree, would like to see more bleeding through and dont like tight weave.

          Greetings All,

I am in agreement with vizenz and Dmv here. I don't care for it at all. This printed insignia was massed produced in the 1970's and is almost identical to the TR period stuff. I cannot tell the difference in most pieces but here are 3 things I look for:

1.) Material is a linen type material that drapes in your hand

2.) Massive color bleed through to the back

          3.) Cut lines

These are some of the criteria I use on these printed shields. IMHO I do not care for most of the pieces on the market today.

This is not one that I would want or be comfortable with. Totally agree with Fred on all points.

Good points all. This one may not have been good.

As far as criteria, all of these didn't have cut lines. And some of them certainly were on the very soft linen, but not all of them. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...unteer+shields.

Some of the cossack types had very little bleed-through. Most of the common ones that we regularly see about for sale are both floppy and exhibit significant mirror-imaging on the back, but not all of them.

Many of the ones in this vet haul had very little ink on the back, for instance.

              Just my two cents.

              regards, Robert

                Greetings All,

Nice picture! Love all of the BeVo patches.

Buying printed insignia, especially foreign volunteer, is scary at best. Tons of this stuff was made in the 70's and is indistinguishable from the TR era pieces. Serious study is the only way to work through this mine field.

WOW that's an impressive box Robert!

Here some more patches from the same lot as the Vlassov POHA patch that started this thread. (SAME SELLER)
These were advertised as coming from an older collection from the 1970's...
Kuban sold for $107 and the ACB one $41

Again all appearing to be in a stiffer (tighter weave) material... I agree that genuine ones should drape (like a hankerchief would) when in hand!

I wonder if WAF members scored these? Rare designs for sure (if real)

I agree they are different and have a tighter wave.
Most of the originals are very thin and drap, but not all.

I do see some double printing on the shields you show, that's on original's as well. who knows....

But I prefer the ones that came out of the box of Robert

What are the odds that one collection would have four different patches, all with the same odd material? That might be a clue as to originality?

IMO the material is very standard for these type patches. There is nothing wrong with their materials, inking, or pattern - these are good as far as I can tell.

                              regards, Robert
