        But the letters say NS
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

I agree that it is a Gothic WS for the Waffenmeisterschulen. Looks like the tailor may have had a bad day and the W is a bit deformed. I've seen this strap somewhere before but I can't recall where...

I posted an em's waffenrock with similar embroidered boards on dark green a few years ago.

Thanks, Brian. I remember seeing your waffenrock when you first posted it. It's a pretty scarce tunic and a great example.

I expect to see a little variation in chain stitched straps, especially with the Gothic letters. Not everyone was an artist.

Since then I have picked up a lovely senior NCOs waffenrock from the same unit with metal WS cyphers. It is one of my favorite tunics.

I'll try to post a few shots later....

Here is the only Waffenmeisterschulen strap I have in my collection. I recently obtained it from a fellow forum member.

You'll notice the way the tress has been sewn across the base of the strap. It started out as an Unteroffizier strap and the tress was sewn across the base when he was promoted to Unterfeldwebel. I don't see any evidence of letters or numbers being picked out, so he was evidently assigned to the school either as an Unterfeldwebel or Unterwachtmeister.

The prong on the bottom left of the W has broken off at some point and was sewn to the strap.
