I obtained these in 1987, with other items, but these are the standouts, as they are ID'd to one unit...There is one other medics armband with a stamp on the front...it is probably with those single socks, somewhere..
As can be seen, these were property marked to Jaeger Regiment 31, with stamp overs and changes showing transition from one company or battalion, to another. A few years ago, when looking them over, it struck me that the yellow and red bands (..and the green?) are most likely friend or foe color bands to be worn on the winter over whites, and reversible winter jacket. The yellow/red bands bear no unit stamps, and there are no button holes, though, at this moment, I can think of more originals seen and photos perused that did not reveal buttons for such color ID. As opposed to the dictates of reenactor unit "Osprey Historians", I am guessing that such practices were up to the individual unit SOP, then as now.
Has anyone seen, or own bona fide examples? It is not something I have contemplated much, until the revelation came to me as to what these may be. I would like to hear from anyone who is knowledgeable in his area.
