Fantastic pic of this type in wear!

I searched my picture archives and I found another one.

This pic was once on ebay and I wasn't lucky enough to get it. I didn't consider the cufftitle of the right man, I saw only the woven one from the left. But the right man definitly wears the black title with gothic script!

      All the best,
      Andreas

When the Afrikakorps cuff title was authorised in 1941, those member of this unit home in Germany on leave, awaiting transfer or under-going training could not obtain the official title so they took it upon themselves to get a title because they wanted one to wear which was now their right to do. At this time, several types of title were custom ordered from suitable manufacturers. One of these manufacturers was a specialist in SS and Grossdeutschland cuff- titles which were white/silver/grey on black and this is how he made a quantity of Afrikakorps cufftitles, some were made like an RZM SS title and others were made in the GD style giving the private purchaser something of a choice at the time. All however were white/grey on black or silver on black.

The silver on Black and white/ grey on black "DAK" & "Afrikakorps" CT did exist in 1941 and these are pre-official titles, privately ordered from tailors and distributed before the official version was avaliable esp to members of the DAK home on leave in 1941. The 2 specific examples I have exact details are from a member of the 90 Light and 15 Panzer. I can tell you exactly in Germany where they got their titles made.

Hope this is of interest and may be explains the one which started this thread or the ones in those very interesting photos added to this thread to show the title in wear.

Excellent thread would be an understatement for this one,

          Chris

Sadly, I do not own them but I will find my notes when I get a chance and add the names of the places where they were made to this thread,

Also wish to thank Andreas & Edgar for their outstanding contributions to this thread with photos of this ultra rare CT in use in the War. Have seen one other photo of a family portrait where the solder is wearing it on his tunic.
Thanks for all those that sent pm's and ems, who shared their interest in this wonderful piece of DAK history.

                          & Chris, agree with Richard.

Please do add anymore info you have as to where these originated. This DAK CT's existance is the most exciting DAK news of last year ! Though the confirmation of the CW M40 comes close. lol.

Just wanted to let everyone know that there is a similar Ct offered on ebay.de, and it is a fake judging from the shape of the letters and general weak appearance.

Seems the seller has seen this thread and decided to cash in on this bad piece.
Believe this is an older copy not made in the last few weeks...Hopefully the bidders will see this thread and will save their cash instead of getting burned.

More proof that frauds/scammers/scum are quick to pounce from the benifit of info from this forum....
                            buyer beware.

Just an update, Have seen another photo with this black DAK ct in use. Another Forum member was kind enough to send it to me, sadly i can not post it. It is worn by a DAK solder on a Waffenrock during leave from Afrika.

Also the auction mentioned in the last post #28 ended within hours of my post. Though it still had 4 days left in the auction, hmmm.

Thanks to the WAF member that sent me the original photos
More research is needed on these early black DAK & AKCT's.

                              All comments welcome...
