as a follow up....i think it looks like E45 -comparing the other 3s stamped too. but if so, why would a summer jacket be depot stamped so late in the war-and before summer. had they hopes the war would go into warmer months? or were denim jackets just part of the available garment frenzy of items issued to those men aged 15-70 capable of operating a rifle or panzerfaust?

It looks E45 to me too. The reason for the late date??? Maybe they just keep manufacturing till the bitter end.

thanks for your thoughts. judging by the cloth manufacturing quality though it doesnt show signs of very late war shortages...so the question re this tunic and field tunics in general is ....what was the time distance between manufacture and depot stamping....?i reckon this one was made earlier and pushed into depot stream due to shortages of wool items...just a thought. unless there was a warm climb theatre of operations still around at this time?
