Looks like an original M43 jacket (straight pocket flaps) with added pocket pleats, shortened etc,,Collar of course has been modified.

Eagle certainly appears to be original factory machine sewn.

Thanks. Is this something done wartime or post war...or will we just never know ?

My was a reaction on Glenn's post of course.
This was done during wartime a lot, fashion and personal taste.

I would recommend you to buy the book 'Feldbluse'; this will give you a nice overview of the german WW2 Field tunic.

Thanks to both of you for replying.

I guess when he got promoted, he wanted to also earn some more "Style Points" at the time and not look like a new recruit? ?

Will have to get the book and expand my knowledge...never hurts.

I find these personally modified tunics much more exciting than the standard 'cookie cutter' issue patterns. They just scream authenticity.

Update. I did manage to pick this tunic up. Seems like an honest, although well used tunic. No majot damage to speak of, just a fair amount of honest wear and dirt (especially the inside liner). Should this tunic be left as-is and just brushed off?

If anyone wants some pics, let me know.
