    Wehrmacht Skulls

    I'm mostly interested in SS stuff, but I've picked up a few items over the years to show how the skull motif was used by various Wehrmacht units. Here are some examples.

    First, a peaked cap of Infantry Regiment 17.

            A wee bit scarcer is the patch of an assault engineer.

                  And here's where it all started. The Black Death's Head Hussars. This is the Brunswick busby, more 'colourful' than the Prussian Leibhusar version. These were the guys who sang the song:

                  In black we are dressed;
                  In blood we are drenched;
                  Death's Head on our headgear;
                  Hurrah! Hurrah! We stand unshaken!

                  It loses a bit in the translation, but it still kind of brings a lump to the throat, doesn't it?

                    Hi Robin
                    love that hat to the 17 IR, there seem to be several variations to this type of skull alone. Though i think mine is more like yours (eagle taken off as a form of de- nazification)
