    Unusual white bands on sleeves

    Hi,

Does anybody know what these white bands are on this officer's sleeve? Definitely not Hauptfeldwebel Tresse. He may possibly be a battalion adjutant.

    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply but as I said in my initial posting, they are definitely not the two rings indicating a Spieß. Thus guy's rank is Oberleutnant... never heard of a Spieß with this rank.

Also, this may not be of any relevance, but he is an officer in the Croatian Inf.Rgt.369. Maybe it's a carry-over from the Croatian army?

Could it be a different garment worn under the tunic of which the cuff is visible?

I am with Jerry - I think it's an undershirt of some sort that is showing with the cuff having ridden up on the tunic.

Jason, do you have an original image? It looks like the wreath of the breast eagle was photoshopped out? That is a tough one. It may be a marker or a piece of cloth just draped over the arm from the map etc. it looks loose. I agree the white line to the right looks like a sleeve edge.

Hmm, hadn't thought of that... now that it's mentioned, it does appear to be a different garment.

The image came from a museum, so unfortunately I do not have an original negative or photo. The lack of detail in the breast eagle is due to poor scanning or lack of focus on the original image.

Thanks for all the opinions. It's a bit of a let-down that it's nothing more than an undershirt!
