With the shield award I think you could narrow it down with a far amount of footwork to a handfull of Jr. Officer Cav. RKTs. I have a couple RKT dress tunics and there is no wear. This looks to me like a service dress as well. You would need to be a lunatic to wear and RK in combat areas in the last half of the War. I know they are in shown in press photos but you would be picked off in a heartbeat in an active operations area. I do not think they were worn as often as thought by many.

You will have to wade through primary sources like this and narrow it down- There are no loops for a DKiG so that will help you. He may have never been awarded one or was killed before it was an option (again assuming they are real etc. and for an RK).

I am no expert on tunics, but plenty of pics show RKT's wearing their RKs in plain sight on the front-lines up to the end of the war. As an example, here is Potschke under fire during the Bulge:Attached FilesNEC SOLI CEDIT

As I said, it did happen but most the time you see it in PK photos etc. I knew several infantrie RKTs while I was stationed in Germany in the 1980s and was told awards were pocketed on patrols or any areas of exposure to snipers etc. etc. You will often see boards removed or turned over for this reason as well. In the end it to me does not appear to be a field tunic.
