can i get some information on the uniform this soldier is wearing?

This is my best friends Grandfather ,Georg Kraft and was born in Seeheim Hessen. my friend tells me her opa never talked about the war ,and she dosent even know which branch he served in. I would be deeply indebted to anyone who can give me any information on the uniform, armband and the branch of service Herr Kraft served. thanks very much in advance!

Does he has any other photo´s? this single photo doesn´t say much.
Only that he served some time in the RAD, like so many guys.
I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

no, sadly this is the only picture the family has of him in his uniform. my friend told me upon his passing her Grossmutter threw away all of the uniforms and medals as she didnt think anyone in the family would be interested in the items.
the only additional info my friend has on her opa is that he was wounded in the head, captured by the russians and released in a prisoner exchange.

Heres some info on the RAD:

Alot of men would have been in this prior to serving in the army.

                  Hi

He may had served in the arm forces too. It was common to serve in the RAD before going to serve in the Arm Forces. His grandson may be able to get his military records.

As Juan noted, family members can recieve service information through a German service sort of akin to the American Red Cross and the VA.

It is important to note that many served in the RAD first, before moving on to the Wehrmacht.

i was unaware of that, i am encouraging my friend to get the complete service records so the family can know the details of Herr Kraft's service

I remember reading and hearing that all males had to serve in RAD or Landyar before going into the armed forces. This was probably before things started to go bad for the Germans, I could be wrong though
