Zauberflöte, you were saying the grouping came with his long straight trousers. I would love to see those as well. Would you mind posting them?

It is mainly a UK-Commonwealth term Richard, another slight against those minions of Satan or Sinistra, the evil left-handed. It means poorly worked/applied.

        Greetings Kurt,

Actually you can just see them in the first picture I posted...they are standard officer private purchase and show serious amount of wear.

          Greetings Zauberflöte,

it sometimes helps to look at the pictures more carefully ... thanks. I'm always trying to learn as much about GS items as possible. It's no secret that it's my favorite branch of service.

As Johnny said, in this instance it meant shoddy or badly worked.

              Nice tunic!

Yes, the collar tabs are somewhat crudely attached but the whole tunic is much worn and full of period repairs. It is not that it is a crispy dress like tunic with only roughly fixed collar tabs sticking out. So I see no problem in that. Pride yes, that is why he probably chose to continue to wear his old uniform. Even higher ranking officers sometimes like a salty look. It shows others that they have been around...
              My thougts about it.

We wore our crappiest beat up uniforms for field operations because things got destroyed and damaged. I would expect the tunic may have served a similar purpose for field use ala Oberst frontschweine-
