    Luftwaffe Eagle ID

    Hello All,
I have a couple of Luftwaffe Eagles I am trying to find info about..first, are they authentic and what is the value??
The one sewn on black wool is bullion silver thread and measures 3".
The one sewn on white wool is also silver bullion and measures 2 3/4"...what is the rank on the white one and where were both of these sewn onto?
    Any information would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Mark Brightman

They don't look too bad; have you exposed them to a blacklight yet?

      Gene,

Yes, I did and they do not glow. Could you tell me what the one with the white background was used for and what rank??
Also, what is the value of these two pieces if they are authentic?
      Thanks again,
      Mark B.

white I believe is for a summer uniform, but it appears in the photo (could be bad lighting) to be tan, which is troipical

They're LW sidecap/visor cap eagles. Really nice pieces if they're original

As Brig noted, they are cap eagles. The white one is for the officer's visor and should either be attached to a backing plate with prongs or have small press snap buttons (like mine) so it can be affixed to the top. The white top of the summer visor was removable for laundering, so the eagle needed to be removable itself. I've heard of eagles being sewn directly to the cap, but have never seen such an arrangement on a cap I felt comfortable with. The blue backed eagle is for the officer's overseas cap or visor. If original, I'd put the white one at $100 and the blue one at $60.
