Thoughts on this set of KM chaplain's tabs...(pre 1942 type I was told).
These do have the proper unterlagen and smell old...
Does the set stand a chance? If authentic, value?

but the cross is not very symmetrical...a concern?

I really don't like them, the quality of the embroidery, the purple cloth, ... very different of originals that I have seen, IMO

Late reply, I am sorry.

They are bad, most likely 60;s era repros. Check on the embroidery, it is lackluster upon reaching the bottom of the wreaths. The ones on Rich's site were mine and 100%. The bottom of the laural wreath should be crisp and distinct, as should the viens of the leaves. If you have bending to the center part of the viens of the leaves, they are bad.

The halmark of the 1st types is a light violet (not purple) back with CRISP lines in the leaves, stems, and cord at the bottom. Anything looking "snake leg" ish, is bad. A deep violet color is usually a bad sign also. I have seen some that border on Boredaux red of Smoke troops, they are not so good.

NEVER BUY A 1st TYPE IN GOLD!! They didnt exist.
