I agree too, they have had the tongues cut off and look like they were glued in an album. The yellow paint on the wool was from a trademark or measurement "tick" on the fabric bolt.

Great...I learned about "ticks" from Johnny, I would never have known what to call them.

Nice detail, those 'ticks'! Saw the same coloured stripes in a Mantel I used to own. 'End of the cut' markings, very normal as backing for shoulder boards.
