Stum Artillerie Collartabs - Views Please?

Guys, I'd really like to hear your views on a pair of Sturmartillerie collartabs that I have an option to buy...I've done quite alot of comparison with other tabs of my own as well as other tabs I've seen and know. A second opinion from veteran collectors of these would be appreciated. Thanks chaps.

I tried to post about 9 hours ago and the forum would not respond, so after many tries I gave up. Picture perfect in every way...spot on!

I do not consider myself to be in that category; but from the pictures, very well constructed, however, I could entertain… Oh never mind.

Well I would not want to be a new collector trying to make any sense of this one and to think that I stand accused at times of confusing such new collectors with what I write.

Started out as a good straight forward thread, at least it did on the surface but seems to now have become an exercise in "read between the lines" one liners.

The problem is if one is to read between the lines then may be we need more lines about them.

When one knows the history behind these and the others found with them it is really no big deal and they are priced fairly for what they are.

Whoops, I am doing it now. Sorry new collectors,

                  Chris

                    Chris,

I only looked at the pictures shown with no background known. I made a call without them in hand which is all you can do from photos. I find nothing wrong in the photographs.

If there is background information being left out, then please enlighten those of us who are not privy to it. Maybe a reversal of a judgment call is need here. Please share, I don't get the secrecy.

                    Richard

                      Hello Richard,

I do not think your call is a bad one except for the fact that the skulls have probably been added to the tabs postwar. Unissued shop stock from the time and I do not know if I am allowed to say where so I will check that before I do.

They may not have been used at the time because of the change over to the model with litzen instead of skulls but keep in mind also that in some individual cases and for a short period time on a unit basis no skulls at all were worn by that branch.

Another thing which a German vet shared with me, in his unit members applied their skulls once their training was completed and on his wrap he distinctly remembered putting the skulls on through both the collar patch and the collar of the wrap

Once the fakers make piping that good on a regular basis then we are all in trouble,

                      Chris

                        Hey Guys,

I'm very interested by the discourse here...As 90th Light alluded to I would like to know more about these. So being relatively new to cloth tab with Totenkopf collecting I have made the best comparative study (of my other two pairs, though not Stug) with this pair in hand that I can...and consulted widely outside the WAF as well.

Thanks to all who have commented so far, as I'd really like to get to a clear conclusion on these I'd appreciate understanding if and why the skulls are repros or not? Is there any possibility of seeing some comparisons and having some discussion on this? Thanks again guys.
                        Cheers, Steve

I had no problems with those skulls. I saw them in aluminium and in zinc.

I'm with you Steve and I'd like to know the reasons these tabs are fakes.
By pictures posted I am still convinced are fine originals.
Could be the skulls are post war added but IMO originals.
Thanks to everyone who will explain, specially from those who do not consider this pair authenthic.
                            Thanks in advance.

                              Hello,

the tabs are from a hord or factory find. If I remember right, no one of the tabs had skulls attached. If someone have problems with later attached original skulls, this pair shown above is the wrong deal. If you haven't problems with that, you'll be fine.

Look at this site, http://www.ssbw.co.uk/ and go to Insignias, you'll find there a pair of boards and tabs in the condition as they were found.

                              All the best,
                              Andreas
