    Edelweiss insignia

I have two cloth edelweiss one I've always had my doubts about so it resided in my spare ribbon box. The other I think is good, any opinions appreciated.

Hi, the pics are not great, but I think the left is good, the right I'm not sure. The metal badge is postwar, IMO

Thanks Jerry, I'm inclined to agree. Apologies for the quality. Here is the reverse of the metal insignia.

Hi I hope this helps. I've compared yours with an austrian? example, but the shape is the same as ww2 german. I've highlighted the difference on yours, which says post ww2 to me.

The cloth ones are both original IMO!

The left cloth badge is ok, the right I'm not sure, perhaps you can post an close up and back photo?

The metal edelweiss is not good i.m.o. I don't like the shiney grey/gunmetal finish on the badge and the prongs it has (period ones have little holes for sewing it onto the cap). This one could be post war Bundeswehr.

I was under the impression that all authentic WWII pieces had five holes, no more, no less.

The two cloth Edelweiss look good, the cap Edelweiss is certainly post war

                    Grüß Di' Bergkameraden,

The cloth sleeve Edelweiß are fine. The metal cap Edelweiß is a post-war German Bundeswehr / Austrian Bundesheer type still being used today.

                    Es war ein Edelweiß...

Gentlemen, thanks for the informative comments, my knowledge is fast improving! Does the lighter green thread of the cloth one on the right cause for concern or is this a maunfacturing variation?

the above posters are correct on the metal edelweiss. it is a bundeswehr one. still original of course, just the wrong time period.
