WW 1 Service Funeral Awards Pillow
For discussion:
One of the highlights of my medal bar collection! I have been collecting medal bars for over 40 years now and I have not seen another Funeral Pillow for sale in many, many years.
This is most likely for an Officer or from the family of a very wealthy NCO as it is made of the finest materials and of the highest quality!
The pillow is made of the finest quality Black Velvet and measures 18 inches by 18 inches. The thick cord which surrounds the pillow and makes up the decorative loops at the top corner (12 O’clock) is made of fine German Silver wire which has toned nicely over the years. (this feature is washed out by the camera's flash) His WW1 service dates of 1914 thru 1918 and the laurel leaves are also made of the similar German Silver Wire in different thicknesses.
His date of death is obviously unknown. There are two holes which represent the location where his medal bar once rested. This Austrian medal bar is displayed simply for a representation of what it would look like in its fully decorated condition.
I would appreciate any comments and additional photos if anyone has any!
Happy Hunting,
Vince Leone
