    Tropical V Neck Sweater

    Hi Team,
I am pleased to have picked up another tropical sweater, this one a 1942 dated V neck pattern to go with a roll neck I bought a while ago. I noticed almost immediately that there has been a label previously sewn at the collar, now overlaid with a size label. Can anyone shed any light on what might have been there previously and why it was removed?
Here is a couple of shots I've cobbled together showing the label and beside it an identifying line to point out the old stitching holes, clearly seen in hand and harder to photograph.
I have little knowledge on textile manufacture and would appreciate any opinions?
    Regards,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

First: congratulations on obtaining such a rare piece! I'll see if I can locate some photograph material that shows these in wear.

Although I might be off, these stitches would suggest a manufacturer tag or label. These were rather scarce on sweaters - these, in most cases that is, only featured a size tag-, but did exist. I will try and search for some examples to post, so you can compare. I know of one maker that used to attach labels to the neckline and that was Berger, but I reccon that this won't be of much help withouth photos to compare.

    Best,
    Vincent S.
