Sometimes, but usually only on Waffenrocks and dress tunics you see tailor-made boards that look like this using the same wool used for the tunic piping etc. The tailors make "clunky boards" like this so all the colors match perfectly. They also sold custom boards in tailor shops for officers etc.

If you are talking about the pips mismatching that is a different story.

      Hi Johnny

The pip I can live with.

The boards are clunky which threw me off but mainly the board to me looks awkwardly placed. Look the the shoulder seam and notice how it seems to run so non parallel with the board.

I noticed that as well and it seems to be a tiny board or a very big tunic. Jacques

The rest looks fine. You should be able to tell if the seam around the board was poped before. The wool looks like late War?. You see the tailoring quality and attention to detail really go down hill after 1943. Boards also were placed with the tunic worn generally so that they were on the wearers shoulder. It may have just been a wierd cut on a panel or fit. Can you post an image of the whole thing and the back showing hw the boards are placed ?

Here is another "creepy" one, it is not following the seam but would be at the apex of the wearer's shoulder etc. The boards were sewn in after the tunic was fitted and the panels already sewn together. It just happens sometimes, depends on the wearers shoulder width etc.

I can see the loops too. With the bad economy everybody's tunics have loops DKiGs this year.

Iam really fighting my gut here Johnny With the bad economy Ive become super paranoid.

That strangely placed board made me feel better though

The award loops on the other side check out to me

It looks like a not great quality later War tunic. If the lining is all hand sewn and not the same material as a modern umbrella you are golden at least as far as the base tunic
