        Hi Junior,
the term "drillich"derives from the German verb"drillen"which means "subject to military training exercises" which translates into...."drill" !
This term extends to all those garments made of HBT (herring bone twill),fatigue garments and combat uniforms alike.HBT was widely used by German clothing manufacturers in the make of fatigue and summer(or hot climate)uniforms due to its strenght and ability to withstand harsh conditions. It'a a collecting field in its own right, and I know several advanced collector who specialize in this branch of German uniform collecting only!
It's nice to see wise lads like you asking and eager to learn and I'm sure you'll find many good new friends here willing to help you and grow and giving you precious advices before emptying your piggybank !
        Take care lad
