Waffenrock Dress Tunic

Hello my friends.

I´m going to buy this Sanitatsoberfeldwebel Waffenrock, but of corse I would like to have second opinions please.

For me it looks nice, the silver/aluminum wire eagle is a beauty imo and in good condition.

Is it because of the officer style collar tabs that you can see that he is a officer candidate? But has not yet got the officer shoulder borards. Was he promoted to officer but he is a candidate while in officer school?

If someone can inlight me here would be much thankful.

Agree it is for an officer candidate - whilst I do not understand the officer candidate system too well, the collar tabs and NCO insignia give it away. They also wore officer grade caps. There is also another form of officer candidate uniforms where the tress around the bottom of the shoulderboards indicated officer candidate status. Like I said, I don't really understand the system.

The thing that gets me with this one is that the collar tabs are not parade tabs - they are just regular field blouse tabs. I would expect parade grade tabs on such a tunic. I would see if there is evidence of other tabs, or at least some tress to indicate a later replacement when the owner became an officer candidate. He may have just used the only insignia that came to hand, but still, I would find these tabs doubtful on a parade tunic. That throws this one into doubt for me. Happy to be corrected though. The cuff tabs are also for an EM / NCO - plus they are badly crooked. I would expect officer grade tabs, although again, if the tunic was later converted he may have used what he had. I would then expect to see perhaps some evidence of tress around the cuffs (unless he was promoted to officer candidate from an enlisted rank, in which case, I would expect to see evidence of replacement of the shoulder boards as well).

A few questions to ask on this one.

Even if he were an officer aspirant, I would probably have a hard time with the tabs - why not officer parade tabs instead of field tabs?

Fahnenjunker = usually Unteroffizier shoulder boards with Doppel-Tresse loops

Fähnrich = Feldwebel shoulder boards with Doppel-Tresse loops

Oberfähnrich = Oberfeldwebel shoulder boards with Doppel-Tresse loops and NCO collar tabs.

After an Oberfähnrich (Unterarzt) has successfully completed his Officer exams - he will remove the loops from his shoulder straps and replace the NCO collar tresse and tabs with officers collar tabs.

He will then wear his Oberfeldwebel straps (sans loops) with Officer tabs, belt and hat until he is promoted to Leutnant.
