what is your opinion about this Wehrmacht insigna ?

What is it ? and used for: cap insigna ? Helmet insigna ?

dimensions are:

4,2 cm / 3,4 cm

It depends on what it was for, if it was for some sort of transfer it is correct.

Looks like insignia that would be put in with block letters to print a newspaper.

I agree with Kondor, it looks like a printers block die which would have been placed on a large board with typeface and then roll printed on top.
I am guessing that the item will be made from some light metal perhaps zinc.

yes you are right, it is made from light metal; zinc ? it's possible.

So a part from a printers block seems to be the best idea.
