I bought this today at an antique mall. Seller says it's Coastal Artillery for an officer. Gold wire on black. Is this correct or is it just Navy?

Greetings Dan, This is a strange one indeed. I haven't seen one of these wire braided ones before.
I think this is a good one. However, the insignia design continued even after WW2. So timeframe is difficult.

Nothing strange about it. Normal hand embroidered marine artillery career patch for an officer. This was part of the Navy or Kriegsmarine.

Worn over the horizontal gold stripes on the uniform.

Thanks for the replys. The reverse has a coarse ivory colored paper stuck to it. Looks like it was removed from a scrapbook.

The post war examples are of a different design, so this is a nice TR example.
I've attached some TR examples, in yellow above some post ww2 in red, to show the differences, though these are machine embroidered examples.

Is this a gunnery officers tunic (on board a ship) or costal artillery officers tunic?
