    HG tropical pz portrait

    Hello,
today this nice portrait has been sold in ebay: I find particularly of interest the collar tabs. I have always seen black boards with white piping in the shape of the army ones i.e. rectangular; but such squared tabs I have always seen in white. What do you think? Air Ministry tabs with piping added on?

Aren't they regular wool Panzer wrapper tabs sewn onto a tropical tunic?

A combination no one would believe today if the tunic showed up, nice!

They do not look rectangular enough to be standard Panzer Tabs, at least to me. They look custom made. COOL!

          HG tabs

I was told by an "Alte Haase" insignia collector that this was something that he had noticed about HG tabs, many times the would be shorter and not oblong. Also, the HG panzer tabs sort of mirror the shape of HG tabs in general.

Cool photo! I suspect this photo was taken around the timeframe of the Sicilian campaign, when the HG Division was just being formed.

Great photo, thanks for sharing it. I would bet the tab background is bottle green (maybe even black like his cap) and the piping is pink. The piping on the boards looks too dark to be white and the cord type piping which is on many HG tabs, usually runs on the pale side. I have seen the Heer style panzer tabs and the Luft style tabs used on all sorts of Luft tunics. You can never have enough photos of all the varieties.

Thank you for all your reply: custom made tabs could be a possibility.
About the piping color I think we should have the picture in hands to be sure : effectively it could also be not white.

                    Ciao, Gustavo,
Superb photo - the third I've seen of a HG man in a tropical tunic with skull tabs...
                    Thanks for sharing

With this combination of insignia with tropical tresse on the collar, skull tabs, plus continental style boards with bright tresse...you would be laughed off the forum...without a photo of the exact tunic in wear. Your taste in uniforms might also be questioned.

                      Jos,

Were you asking about engineer pink because of my guessing on the color? I was thinking anti-tank with the pink as I thought pink piped HG tabs were anti-tank. I know one of the forum members has a screaming black HG wrap with pink piped tabs and boards. I don't have any HG reference books so I'm flying blind and I could be totally wrong.

Can anyone supply me with a link to the auction?

                          Hello Mark,
                          you are welcome
Here is another one but with regular tabs and boards (sorry for the poor quality of the scan)

Gustavo - Thanks for the added image! Not too bad - the tight machine sewing on the eagle is quite clear (and interesting for it's thread colour) and the tropical NCO shoulder straps are notable.
The tab size difference is very clear in comparison to the first image you posted. I do not collect tropical LW items (specifically), but if I had the chance to own a tunic such as this - with provenance - I'd jump at the chance.

With the correct provenance, I would. Have seen an HG tropical tunic that is all original beyond any doubt.

                              Excellent photo.
