    ebay auction

Can someone tell me why this auction ended with that price? Which insignia were the high dollar ones,or was it just shill bidders driving the price up? I cannot believe the final winning bid.

Johnny , Dav; thanks for the explanation , I did not know that tab was that expensive . I thought I had seen them on some dealers sites ,but evidently I did not pay attention to the price.

It is reportedly some rare variant etc. etc. But when half a chocolate bar size piece of insignia loose costs as much as two untouched Army officers tunics I stop reading.

That pattern isn't the common one you see on dealer sites.
like with anything the devil is in the details.
If I wasn't so broke right now I would have been a player

I am happy with my original Army items. My Dad was in ETO 43-45, I told showed him this and he just laughes at the prices. The devil is in the desire not the details.

Not cheap but at least you get more moth food around the tab..... and usually an eagle thrown in!

It is a personal choice Jerry, I am not slighting collector decisions. To me that is a lot of money to sink into loose insingia. Probably a good investment but I prefer named complete funny purple piped uniforms (when they are real) yes.

Part of it is the history of the loose insignia, as many of the pieces didn't survive either with the uniforms they were on, or were removed by their owners as to not be shot on site. It was not very popular to be in the SS at the end of war.

You want to see some silly numbers, try to find a named SS complete SS tunic!

You could outfit a battery of nebel troops! But with any of these "collectibles", you can't always do a side-by-side comparison with this stuff, it will drive you crazy to think "oh I could have had 75 black wound badges or 10 army daggers for that money...")

I like tunics too, don't get me wrong, I wish I had more of them. But finding them untouched in the wild has gotten harder, and more than half at the shows are diddled with in some way. Specific SS cloth is a "yes" or "no" with less gray area.

I don't collect for the "investment" as I have no intent on selling in my lifetime. And while I wish they didn't cost as much as they do, and weren't faked as much as they are, it just makes finding that real & rare piece that much more special.

But I for one am thankful you don't collect SS
