    Winter Parka/Trouser question...

    Fellas,
Some friends and I have been in a debate concerning the topic of German Wehrmacht winter parkas/trousers. If anyone here can help us understand the following questions, we would greatly appreciate it.

The padded uniforms were issued in sets on unit levels, this we know, but were they concidered unit gear and were to be turned in at the end of the winter season or were they concidered personal gear at that time?

Also, we have examined many original parkas that appear to have a wool blanket type lining. Were these uniforms made with any other type of "stuffing" besides the blanket type?

Again, you knowledge in this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

The German soldier was allowed to wear it from September untill April i beleve.
And since i personally never see any names in them, i think they are being kept as unit clothing rather then for a specific soldier.
To me that would be the most logical as well.

But lets wait on the guy that is working on the winterclothing book (forgot his name), i'm sure he'll reply soon
I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

      Hello,

Here I am then, after a short trip to Stockholm.

The Winteranzüge, the padded winter uniforms, were part of the so-called Sonderwärmeschutz (special clothing for winter usage), and were to be returned to the Quartiermeister at the end of the winter season (officialy mid-April; However, most of these padded suits were left at the Sammelstelle earlier on, as the greatcoat would offer sufficient protection from about mid-March). The garments would then be cleaned and repaired at rear-area factories and stored in depots. Then, from late September onwards, these garments would be redistributed amongst all troops serving in cold areas, the so-called Winterbewegliche Verbände. (Due to supply problems this distribution often started in early November)

      Best,
      Vincent S.

        Vincent,
Thanks for the detailed information. Is it true the padded reversable camo uniforms were made with a blanket type lining as well as a wadding type stuffing? A medium and heavy weight type items? When will you be taking orders for your upcoming book? Hope you have a good holiday season. Thanks again.
