    Rare-- But Unpopular-- Shoulder Boards

Here are a pair of Kriegsmarine Korvettenkapitän (V) dress frock coat shoulder boards. In 1935 this branch was changed from paymaster designation (Zahlmeister) to administrative (Verwaltung), and previous Beamten status was altered to that of "fellow combatants" by changing insignia from silver (buttons etc) to gold.

As some idea of rarity-- in the Imperial navy in 1918 there were NO Paymaster officers higher than KaptLt equivalent (Marine-Stabszahlmeister). In 1931, there were only TWO Marine-Oberstabszahlmeisters (= KorvKapt).

In 1937 there were 33 regulars and 12 (E) officers with this rank.

In 1944 there were-- 89. Hold that thought!

... Whereas in 1944 there were 169 full Generale "der..." 2 pippers---

    TWICE as many.

Supply is very much versus demand, isn't it?

Beautiful. I know nothing of Kriegsmarine and collect even less, but appreciate what you have here to show.
          Thanks for sharing.
