    PzGr. Insignia Review

I'm sure you all know where this is from and I just wanted to check in on this tunic's particular insignia. The main question; period sewn or postwar-period sewn? Would the rough job indicate that it was most likely done by a soldier than a meticulous collector?

Post war reapplied, IMO, but that is just my opinion, which is not really based on anything in particular.
The sewing on the tabs, look little more than 'tacked' on, and would not, IMO, have survived the test of time in that condition.

    JerryBB, who knows nothing.

You do not mention the third option which is collector/dealer with no sewing talent applied.

There are period examples sewn like this but not many. If the insignia fits perfectly on the older statch outlines than they may have been removed at the end of the War and in the pocket and later sewn back on. This happens fairly often, otherwise it was restored with insignia that was not part of the configuration. I saw an eagle withthe red like this once and it had been sewn to a party flag with other insignia? Could that have happened here, it was sewn on something else and removed. Regardless, Nice base tunic

One can speculate but there is no way to know when the insignia was applied. It is probably safe to assume that the eagle at least has been resewn, as the majority were. One can speculate but there is no real answer. I have seen eagles like that where a red fabric was used as the backing to protect the embroidery, that is not a big deal.

I am just providing options and ideas based on past experience, I agree with you 100%. To me it looks like it was ewn to something red like a wool.

            earlier stiching?

There appear to be signs of earlier stitching, for ? thinner tabs? on the collar.

It is an issue tunic and would have had EM/NCO tabs on it before most likely applied in the factory or at the issuing unit. Can you post a pictures of the entire tunic, are there French cuffs or a slit for a dagger hanger? These things may not be there but if they are at least you know it was modified for a, Oberfahnrich or an officer etc.

                Here is the rest:
When an NCO was promoted were they typically given a whole new tunic or was it usual for them to resew officer insignia on?

So it is an issue M36 with what looks like an added inside pocket.

I highly doubt it. I have a great M36 that was upgraded to an officers tunic. It still has the price tag part way out from when the tailor put the boards in. So I would likly say no, they just upgraded what they had, but even if the insignia was upgraded period you would notice that it has settled into the wool a bit. This just seems to really stand out so I would likly say that the insignia was put on postwar. Likely a stripped tunic that had original insignia with similar wear and tear added to it. The mismatched shoulderboards aren't a killer, have seen it on many original tunics. You used what you had. If ya stripped it I would love to get a hold of the insignia, or if you redo it take it to a tailor that knows what they are doing. Matt
