So, just for my own interest, is it acceptable for a privately tailored jacket to have been sewn together with such bad sewing skill? I'm not talking about the insignia.

Like I said earlier, I'm no expert on tunics, caps are my area, but I would not except this standard of sewing on a contract cap let alone a tailored piece. Plus I have a few factory made trop tunics and the machine sewing is miles better on all of them than this one.

      My 2 cents:

      • Real tunic
      • The edelweiss may have been done by the soldier, the EK2 most certainly was.

I wouldn't have any problem with this in my collection. Officer grade tunics for NCO's are very rare... they didn't have that kind of money in most cases.

        Hello
You know , not every German soldiers were "expert" at sewing
I don't really care about how the sewing fashion should be , since every single tunic ( talking about outside the factory here !!! not factory applied insignias !!!) would have completely different degree of sewing , from the expert taylor to Hans's " in the bunker done sewing job" . All I really care about is " is the insigne original to the tunic " and there is quite few ways to tell and if your opinion is based solely on the sewing job , well ....
        Regards

No guys, I'm talking about the sewing of the jacket itself, not the insignia. It's terrible. Different weights of stitch, off line etc etc. It's very shoddy.

To be honest, I never even looked at the insignia. The first thing I saw was the liner application. I have no trouble believing a soldier with limited skills sewed on his insignia but I have a big problem accepting that he also sewed in the liner. That is the only issue I have with it and seeing more pictures may prove me wrong.
