I´m sure this question had been raised a couple of times on this forum. What is your best tips to keep the uniform collectors no 1 nemesis away? Any new tricks out there to save our prescious cloth from a bug invation?

Cedar wood
The trad way is to store it in furniture made of Cedar wood, or at least place a plank in with them.
More modern methods are not something I have experience of.

i use small bags of lavender inside the french cuff it keeps them away
and smells nice

I use cedar spheres and shavings. No chemicals for me. I also use breathable clothing bags and have an isolation ward for new tunics before they go into the main population. I have never had a problem.Comment

Napthalene crystals for me. Gotta have that 'dirty old man' smell or she just isn't working.
I cut a small square out of old stockings, add a spoonful of crystals and secure with a twist tie. Insert into pockets and French cuffs, and (as the Chinese say), Viola!! I've never had a moth or silverfish issue, so it must be working.

They allow air circulation and the cloth to breath but do not let insects in. Plastics give off fumes and can stain/leech colors over time, this is the same reason why I do not use chemical moth balls etc. or plastic hangers. I also spray the basement and openings to the outside etc. I take everything out and check it careully about twice a year. I know a Imperial collector that did not do this and opened a box to about $10000 worth of powdered pill box caps. Older houses seem more likely to have problems.

They work well, I just do not like using them. Cedar works well and smells a lot better. The kids can eat as much of that as they want without dying.Originally posted by Dan M View PostComment
