All orignal Winterjacke 43, in a worn, but still solid condition. Note the camouflaged waist strap, which is a rare feature.

    Sincerely,
    Vincent S.

I was wondering if anyone has heard or seen any original Sumpftarn (Tan & Water) parka sets made out of a twill rather than poplin fabric? This is an ongoing debate amongst a few of us friends and no definitive answer has been presented thus far however all the originals we have seen have been made out of the poplin type weave. Any inputs to this discussion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I recieved the same question a few days ago, but my opinion remains the same.

Concerning the twill: thusfar I have only seen plain-weave used, as in poplin, but no twill-weave untill now. Based on the number of items that I have seen and studied, both in hands and on photographs, it is my belief that - during the entire war - only plain-weave was used for the production of winter suits. I know of various reproductions/ fakes featuring the twill weave, amongst others those of Spearhead.

However, if someone can provide me with a clear image of twill-weave on an original jacket, I would be more than willing to revise my opinion.

        Best,

        Vincent S.

I agree with Vincent. Those Spearhead copies are not very close.

            Vincent,
Actually it may have been my email you were referencing. I sent you an email to get on your book pre-order list. It's funny you brought up the Spearhead's repros because that is what started our discussion. Someone brought up the fact that they were being made using twill and asked if we have seen originals like that. Many of us couldn't answer off the top of our head so we began researching. All the originals we have seen in person or in pics and all references have confirmed poplin or plain weave was the cloth used. We figured if anyone had an original otherwise, they would probably be on this forum. Anyhow, thanks for the post. So when is the book due out?
