    Panzer M44 Eagle

A recent acquisition 'out of the woodwork' here in Knoxville. Still a few threads there from where this one was once on a uniform.

Actually looks a bit cleaner in the photo that in does in real life.

That brings up an interesting topic. Why are there these M44 eagles in white? You would think, since they had switched from white to gray on the normal panzer eagle long before these appeared, they would naturally make the M44 type in gray too. In fact, they did. So why the white "throw-back" version?

Has anyone ever seen the white version originally applied to a panzer wrap?

I recently picked up a Stabshelferin des Heeres grouping and included was a worn version of this M44 eagle in white. This was the eagle she wore on her jacket. Was that just a fluke, or was this eagle actually made to be worn by these Stabshelferin women?

          Greetings All,

The White on Black M44 panzer eagle is called "an anomoly" by Angolia. I have always considered these eagle Helferin Eagles. Black was the facing color ,Background, for their insignia and there was no need for camoflauge so a white eagle. Even in "44".

I wonder if these white M-44 versions "could" have been used on Panzer wrappers though? The factories were still applying early insignia in 44-45 so obviously a shortage of mouse grey type insignia..

Just throwing a thought out there, do you think that the M44 was a design for saving time to put on since you did not have as much trimming and folding before sewing it on. The standard birds required alot of trimming and folding on the back when you look at one compared to the M44, three folds and sew.

Absolutely the reason for the M44 "simplified" pattern!
