Looks to me that this is just French made, extra strong, linen thread from a registered trademark company.

The thread is definitely from around that period , see the art deco on it .
It is indeed French made .
You can get many of these at you local " vide-grenier" in France for about few cents . Add a label ( Chris is right , it actually does look original ) to it and VOILA a $25 thread !!!!
