    Tropical M43 jacket. Any comment!

    Hi all,

Do you have any comments to this tropical M43 jacket? I have had this for about 8-9 years and bought it together with a pair of matching trousers here in Norway.

    With regards,
    Stian

Well, for starters, it is a model 42. Second, the insignia is continental not tropical.

Thank you for your reply Frank.
I thought it was a M43 because of the M43 stamping. But I have no problem having a M42 made in 43.
Is this not a tropical jacket? Even if the insignias aren’t tropical.

      With regards,
      Stian

          i agree with Franck's comments.
          and aside its insignias,
it is a tropical jacket, considering its design,
colar can't be closed (no metalic hook and eye system).

Based o nthe thread the tabs at least may be original to the tunic, it is sort of an earlier version of this (E44) with them using continential insignia:

This type tropical tunic is NOT 'm' anything or '42' pattern. It is a 2nd pattern that first saw manufacture in 1941.
I would not expect to see a continental eagle factory applied in this manner on a 1943 dated tropical tunic of any pattern...but this looks quite convincing from the rear. I'd like to handle this one before condemning it.

I have no problems with the eagle, the earliest ones in Italian tropical fabric like the one I posted are also dated 1943 and are found with both tropical and continental insignia. This is the first one I have seen in German tropical cloth but it "makes sense". Some manufacturers continued making tipped pocket flaps on wool tunics until late in the War.

                      Hi all,

Thank you for all you’re input and also stating what model the jacket is. I appreciate it very much.

If you would like some more detail pictures with higher pixels around the eagle or any other places then just say the word.

                      With regards,
                      Stian

                        Johnny,
                        Same here!
I should add that I believe the classification for tropical tunics should be 1st/2nd and 3rd patterns as I think it more historicaly accurate than 'm' this or that as at this point the dates used are incorrect (If this were the case we would be looking at m40, m41 and m42 in sequence).
Stian, could you take a close-up of the sewing of the eagle from the inside with attention on the re-enforcing twill?
                        Regards,
                        Mark

Yes, I stand corrected in my haste. 'PATTERN' is correct, oops I have not major issues with the continental insignia either. I prefer, tropical insignia.

                              Thanks Stian,
Great photos, and quite revealing. The eagle looks period applied from those images. A very desirable tunic(and trousers!)
