    FeldGendarmerie Officer's Breeches-need opinion

    Hello
I need opinion. This is a original Wehrmacht Feldgendarmerie Officer's Breeches?
    Thanks for opinions.

    Hello,

The civil POLICE, not the feldgendarmerie of the army, wore a "mottled" cotton summer uniform which this appears to be. It is hard to tell the color from the photos. Is it the same as shown in this photo,ie; a green/orange cotton canvas?

If so I would say it has a chance of being a good pair of police breeches, but not army. The basic cut with the high back is right, but typical breeches have a single back pocket, as well as a watch pocket in front. Your trouser's material also looks to be a finer weave than what I am used to seeing. This type of material was used by the police post war, and pre-war as well. In fact it is still used in Austria today. The smaller "sap pocket" below the larger rear pocket is also a common post war attribute, but to be honest I can't say they didn't exist during the war.

    Any markings?

All in all I think your pants are civil police, not army feldgendermerie, as they wore army uniforms, not police. The era of your pants is not clear to me but I am leaning towards their being post war.

That said, if they are "mottled" cotton I am looking for a pair for display if they are not what you thought they were, and don't fit into your collection. I have a couple of police tunics of this material but no pants.

    Regards,
    William Unland

I have an Army lightweight tunic made out of the same material as the breeches which looks a little different than the Police Jacket?. Note an idiot removed the Tank Destruction Badge.

I tend to agree with Bill that these breeches are postwar. The breeches do not match your tunic as they are definitely police issue with the sap pocket on the leg. The lack of a watch pocket and the two very odd open back pockets are not wartime police regulation. I would guess they are immediate postwar police pants but certainly not Feldgendarmerie.

If you are refering to the tunic I posted, it is the same fabric and is tailor-made not issue. "Sap" pockets are found on non-police clothing and these types of pockets were also used for Artillery slides and rules, I also suspect for other uses as well.
