super salty Major's board (the moth's leftovers)

    Hello,

Found this nice little pile of stuff that the moth couldnt finish.... I know that it is for the rank of major, and I'm pretty sure that it's army, but my question is does the yellow color denote recon or cavalry? or am I way off?

    Thanks,
    John

The waffenfarbe looks like Cavalry to me. I like pieces like this. It's interesting to see how and what materials were used to construct them.

I also like peices like this, You know that it has difinately been there! that's a good point you can really see all of the different materials used...

You guy's wanna know where i found it ??? I was in the process of inspecting a crack house in the downtown Galveston ghetto. A contractor friend of mine was thinking about renovating it and re-selling it and wanted my opinion... we walked upstairs and there was all kinds of trash strewn all over the place. I kicked a small pile over and this little guy was peeking out smiling at me!

In retrospect i"m not sure it was worth finding it due to the next 4 1/2 hours that i spent sifting through the rubble, not to mention the 100$ polo shirt that was white when i got there and a medium shade of light brown with some rust colored spots when I left...

Funniest thing was when my friend came back about two hours later and I was on my hands and knees sifting through trash..... He laughed and said you dont need to tear up the floorboards looking for crumbs of crack that may have been dropped over the years.... I laughed and said....Gimme a crowbar! you really think it's underneath the floorboards?

Looks like a late RH to early WH dress board for Kavallerieregiment 10. They were disbanded in Sept. 1939. It could be for AA 10 but the number form and the brass color typically are late 1920s early 30s style.

I knew a construction contractor in Germany when I was there 20 some years ago. He found pistols and all kinds of stuff hidden in walls and under floors. I specifically remember several Imperial dress swords he found behind a wall panel.

          The unit-

thanks for the information, And that is amazing... finding all of that stuff! I would have ended up tearing down the whole house with my bare hands!!! (kind of what I did today after finding one tiny piece of TR). I am still thrilled to have come across despite the fact that it is probably worth 5 bucks!... but unfortunately there is nothing left but garbage in the house that I speak of....

I can only imagine what is hidden in walls of buildings in the former DDR. When I was in the Army one of my Soldiers found an MP-40 is a water filled foundation. I spoke to a German Soldier once that had hidden a sniper rifle and ammo in a French barn inside a wall but never got an exact location.

OH NO! pardon my language, but that sucks! My main collecting interest is rifle's and optics (more specifically scopes). the fact that all of these collar tabs and cufftitles and other cloth stuff have survived this long in great condition is no big deal, I mean cloth does'nt rust, But a Sniper being even halfway exposed to all of those years negligence is no good! It's sad to say that if it were found today I would fear that it would be in relic condition and in-operable, unless there was a miracle that took place.

HA ha.... I will live the rest of my life with this in the back of my mind now, knowing that somewhere in France there is or was (could have been found by now) an authentic and correct sniper in some unknowing farmers barn

That a cool story though, Thanks for sharing!

                P.S. I'm off to France!!!

That is one of my favorite stories. I am sure someone found it by now and it probably was destroyed from exposure. It was a 98K with a scope. He said they were told that Allied soildiers were shooting anyone caught with a sniper rifle on sight after capture and hid it. He said he was glad he was captured shortly after that because appearently they needed to fill out forms and report loss of expensive equipment. He said you could face court martial for loosing weapons etc. especially if retreating.
