It is all about money to some of these people, they do not give a crap about ethics or history. Same mentality for individuals that chop up period photo albums to make more money.

Yes I saw that post, but after that nobody commented the nametag, so some other opinion wouldnt hurt.

A lot of parts could get discussed (RK remainings under the colar, nametag, traces of original insignia on prerestoration pictures, medal loops,...).

So please share your opinion. If too many , then I will reconsider buying it, and wait for next oportunity.

I personally would not buy it after knowing the (bad) Soap Opera script antics and cast of characters involved, 007 one of special note. There are nice pieces out there, you just need to wait until guys like me die and then our wives sell them to buy shoes.

I see one of the people involved with the restoration is in the thread now- "Bergfuhrer" maybe he will comment. The tag is suspicious to me enough to not take a chance unless that is what you want and you are paying for the parts.

Is it the time of WAF holliday that nobody else writes?

Most Americans do not take vacations, we just drive our wives to the Mall and do yardwork on weekends. Nobody wants to cut off a potential TR collectible teat.

I'm feeling your pain DonC,...but seriously, I would realy apreshiate if discussion would go on in a constructical way. From what i read, thoughts are that this is a constructed uniform, who knows if realy of General rank, except of insignia. If opinions are on side that also the nametage was messed with, then we can think that also the medal loops were compromised to seem more convincing to connect the name with uniform.

So unfortunately this is a big mess with general insignia on it

                    1. Yes, the world is on vacation. Except for America.

                    2. Wait for a general's tunic without a bad past. You will still want a good tunic with original insignia, buying a restored item will always leave you hungry for a great original piece. Buy once. Buy right.

I agree and avoid wasting time and money by dealing with people who have bad reputations for selling put together garbage as real. Trust yourself and your knowledge not stories from a reassuring seller.

The tag is certainly messed with. Looks to be cut down as to not show old holes and based on where the wear patterns (sort of) are a name has been erased. In fact look close a tag from the same maker is in the mix.

Tale a look at some good tags.

Thanks NTZ, I was waiting in the wings. A tribute to the turd dealers who I love. The math is easy.

Just to clarify you will find a common thread on all these bad general rank and personality named tags (no pun intended). They will be cut down (to hide old holes). They will look well worn (to erase old name). They will 9 out of 10 times be typed (because the faker can't reproduce period style handwriting). Not that every typed or well-worn tag is bad but it needs to be looked at in its context or totality. Also watch the stitching. Most the bad tags have perfectly straight tight stitch loops. Look at all the real tags. The loops are on a slight angle.
