Summer Tunic ?

It is possibly an original wartime tunic but, it has been messed with somewhat. The white tunics had removable insignia for ease of laundering such as the pin back metal breast eagles and snap on collar tabs. Any evidence of a label inside? I would also try black lighting it. Buttons are wartime.

Its a tough one.... but I also agree good chance of it being war time. Its definately not your standard army (WH) white tunic (as introdudeced in the prewar years) as those have closed necks and it also lacks the French cuffs...
It is also not your standard Navy (KM) open neck white tunic... It does have the angled pocket corners which you would expect with KM, but is does not have a button slit in the lapel, it does't have the (fake) French cuffs, which would be expected with KM summer uniforms...Any signs of loops for it to hold a metal breast eagle (now repleced with a bullion one)?
Based on all the medal loops its obviously a combat tunic...so not a para -military piece, like Polizei, party or something...
Perhaps the French cuffs were worn out and removed?
or it was privately tailored like this? Officer preference?
It obviously did have WH officer collar tabs on it at one time...which would not have been worn if it was a standard closed neck officers tunic...
So its a custom made piece...but no tailor tags either, just some (faded) ink stamped numbers/letters (size?) which would make you believe its an issue piece...
Intrigueing...It looks old, has old fading (insignia areas) ... so a promising piece to me!Last edited by NickG; 07-28-2009, 03:31 PM.
