Cap badge of 1.Panzer-Division

This oakleaf is attached to an album from a soldier who belonged to 7./Pz.Rgt.1.

Can this be an original Mützenabzeichen of 1.Panzer-Division?

If I read the scale correctly, it is a little bigger than what looks like a Shirmmütze eagle. This seem large from what I have seen in photos. I have never seen an original to collect...only photos.

Jim's looks more right for the cap badge...although I have not seen many, if any, in my own collecting experience. I would guess that since this symbol was so common in the division, that ones like yours were made for a variety of reasons besides being placed on a cap....but looks like yours was not meant for the cap.

I agree that real ones don't show up too often and of course repros just muddy the water.A friend got this from a relative of the vet that wore it. My friend kept his Pz Asslt badge and Single Handed destruction of tank badge. I managed to get the cap badge after 2 years of negotiations.Jim

Hi Guys,
these pressed metal oakleafs were used in an award document during the 1930's....I am wracking my brain but cannot recall what it was for....but I think it was Hj swimming or something inocuous like that. The leaf was part of the seal placed on the document...with a cord running through the leaf and then down to a paper seal with the award writing on the right verticle side of the paper..

Just wish I could recall what it was for!

It seems Wade K. got it. Found this in an auction. Maybe not a 100 % match, but at least very close.

The text says:
Sporturkundenheft in Silber. Umschlag mit Blindprägesiegel. Mit einliegendem silbernem Eichenlaubblatt aus Metall, sowie originalem Einlegeblatt zum Schutz.

Ausgestellt für die 8. leichtathletischen Wettkämpfe der Turngemeinde Hanau. Datiert 20. und 21.August 1938

I have no idea if these items were used all over Germany. But at least Hanau belonged to WK IX, where 1. PD and it`s personell came from

Thanks Johannes! That is exactly the award document I was thinking of!! I hate it when you can't remember where you have seen something like that. Problem solved. The likness I think solves the "mystery"....
