    Traditions or Unit Insignia

I got this with a bunch of german stuff, many years ago. To date I have had no luck making an identification. It is small, about 1 inch tall and thinly stapmed. There are holes for sewing it to something.

    I appreciate any help.

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

    Hello Bob,

are you sure it is military related? I'm not sure that it is a tradition badge or unit insignia. Looks like a fountain and owl? It could be a civil town coat of arms too. Only my thoughts.

No the same but comparable: Town of Quickborn

The coat-of-arms you posted is a very close match to the badge; it makes sense as well, because Quickborn is near Hamburg in the Hanseatic League area.

          I suspect it's a shield for a walkling stick.

              Gentlemen,

please note that 'Quickborn' also was a (moderate) nationalist and catholic youth and student movement in the 1920's, around a monthly magazine with the same name. It was founded after WWI by an Italian-born Berlin priest named Romano Guardini. His followers were abstainers, nationalists and pacifists. The movement was forced into the Hitlerjugend after 1933 and later forbidden. They used a cross-and-rising-sun-symbol, but also the owl and the source of the city coats-of-arms of Quickborn. This means literally 'the lively source', symbol of the 'dawn of a new man'. Sort of right-wing hippies...
But... it could very well be a simple walking-stick shield...

              Greetings,

              Lucius
