    Hello Sir! how are you?

I can appreciate that you have doubts (when do you not? ) but can someone just say what's wrong with it please?
I've looked at gabardine wraps that have been posted on this forum before and got the thumbs up. This one doesn't look too dissimilar to those, at least to me.

I think I've helped enough people out on the headgear forum over the years to deserve a little help in return, no?

Good, now we are getting somewhere. Dyed black from what colour gabardine? is that the brown showing through? I thought it was just dirt to begin with.

        Well, thank you.

The most glaring defect has already been pointed out, bad material.
        Best,

          This is like pulling teeth

          What's "bad" about it?

Just curious why you would want it even if its original? No boards, no collar tabs, eagle, nothing. Poor condition!!!!

Ben, this is a "bad" copy but still a good door mat.

Guys, this has been as useful as a chocolate teapot. When you come over to the headgear forum, I must remember to return the favour.

                  C'mon Ben
Seriously, this wrap screams "FAKE" and there is even no need to go into details but Bes and Bryon have already pointed out: This material is well-known modern Latvian wool - found almost on all their artificially aged fakes. If you want to see what original wraps look like, just use the "Search" on top this page and compare an original material and wear.

Look, I didn't really think that this wrap had much of a chance, hence the title of this thread. My gut told me that it wasn't looking good but I posted it hoping to learn something because my gut doesn't explain to me what exactly is wrong.
You guys have given nothing of value to me or anyone else except to just take your word on what your saying. "Bad" material, "screams fake", "not even close" You say there's no need to go into details. I disagree, of course there is. Unless you prove to me that you know what you're talking about, why should I listen to you?
We had a similar situation on the SS forum recently. An obvious fake TK was declared good by a couple of members. Well, if it wasn't for the fact that certain knowledgeable members spoke up and set the record straight with facts and information, who would have known who's speaking the truth or not?
As soon as Bryon said that he had doubts about this wrap, that's good enough for me because I know that he has the experience and knowledge from knowing him for a number of years on this forum. But, I have learn't absolutely nothing concrete from any of the responses so far, sorry to say.
"not even close" "bad material" or "bad copy" means nothing. If you can't explain what you mean, why should anyone listen to you? I'm guilty of doing the same in my chosen area of study but it really becomes evident when your asking about something outside of you comfort zone. Think about it.

That is nice to hear, Ben. For a simple reason - to save your money but.
What do you really want to learn from us? You are a good expert in headgear and I know that you can see the difference between modern and original material and wear. Just look at these two pics below. Don't you see that this is just a really awful, artificially aged copy that speaks for itself?

Agree with Ben 100%. Sometimes this forum is very helpful in learning something new. At other times its like only a few are supposed to know the different ways to spot bad items, and the rest must just take their word on it.
In general the more of us that can learn from the more experienced collectors are the more of us that can spot bad items ourselves.

Good, something I can respond to at last. When I look at this material I do not feel comfortable. It does look artificially aged I agree. So, why couldn't anyone say that in the first place? What's the big secret? but then again someone said it was dyed wool so WTF is anyone supposed to think?
I'll tell you what else I don't like about this wrap as well. Look how small the lapels are.....I could go on an on but the Killers are playing live right now on the telly so I'm taking a break!!

                            Sir,

Please look at this thread, http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=95380&page=10 in particular post #s 22 & 23. Perhaps this is the material, which you are referring to, that appears similar to the jacket in question. And perhaps one might see "similarities;" however, I can assure you that they are not the same and having each in hand the difference would be readily apparent.

                            With Regards,
                            Bryon

I agree, classic "Riga Garage aging" to it. . It is unquestionably bad and postwar.

I deleted the details technique out. No need to give ideas to anyone.
