hi Gents

i am looking at a heer parka mouse grey/White colour, and was wondering the buttons are marked on the back but on the front they have a 1 on them any ideas or an i asking a silly question i stress i am a german helmet collector

Those "1"s sound like buttons that were used to designate Company assignments if they are "I" it would be the battalion. If they all are numbered I would say the were applied post War. I there are one or two they may be wartime repairs. One the back could be many different things, sometimes a two number date "42" or the company name etc.

I recall seeing that parka before. My opinion now is the same as then, being that these buttons are original, but post war attached/ replaced. I concur that these are indeed buttons used to indicate the Battalion.
